It's a Home Run

I love taunting my son  (who is a die hard Yankee fan) that  I am now wearing a red jersey  ever since we moved to St. Louis.  What impeccable timing to move here when the Cardinals are playing in the World Series.  The whole town is wearing red jerseys.   "Go Cards" signs are everywhere. The spirit is infectious. So at  the start of Game 4 last night I went to the kitchen and fixed this:

Oh yes, it's carne asada fries baby!!! Yes and with ice cold cerveza made my husband cheer louder (and we're glad my son was not around to hear us cheer for the Cardinals). Never mind if the Cardinals lost last night, (we're confident they will rally back and Pujols flicks another homer) but this plate was a sure winner!

Carne Asada Fries
I was hesitant to share this recipe since I didn't do any cooking. But with the rave that this plate got, I gotta post it. I just baked some store bought fries.  Cut some left over carne asada steak (recipe below), layered it with guacamole, salsa  and cheddar cheese. plate it and voila, you have a home run!

For the Carne Asada
2 lbs flank steak marinated overnight in:
1/4 cup olive oil
1 whole lemon squeezed
1/4 c orange juice
a jigger of tequila
salt and pepper
garlic, minced
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Procedure:
Prepare your grill.  Remove beef from marinade.  Grill  over hot flame for about 5 minutes or until it's browned. Turn it over and grill  the other side until desired doneness.
Let is rest on a board and slice.  Should be served while still hot.

  3. I've had carne asada fries once in a resto and loved it (better than nachos, I think). You make it easy here, would definitely make some for the boys at home from now on.

  4. It does look like the perfect game day dish - and heart-warming dish. Are you really wearing red? I am always torn between my hometown (NYC) and my adopted town (St. Paul). Of course the Yankees always trounce the Twins... sigh.
